Many revel in the cold air, winter sports, and the holiday season. Some feel a sense of renewal as they huddle inside during the long, dark nights. For a surprisingly large number of us, however, winter is a season filled with dread, sadness and a fervent wish for spring to arrive. Winter-related phobias run the gamut from the fear of snow to the fear of being trapped. Fear of Cold The fear of cold, or cryophobia, is often worst during the winter months. Some people are afraid of cold air temperatures, while others fear touching cold objects. Cryophobia may stem from many different root causes  but is most often linked to a subjective perception of cold and negative associations with the sensation of cold. However, each person experiences temperatures differently, so the threshold for cold is different for everyone. Fear of Snow The fear of snow, or chionophobia, is often linked to other phobias. Those with fears of cold, severe weather, or water may be afraid of snowstorms even when they are at home. People with fears of driving, being trapped, or becoming contaminated are typically afraid only when they must go out in the snow. This fear ranges from mild to severe  and may be extremely life-limiting for those who live in colder climates. Fear of Air The relatively complicated anemophobia, or fear of air, may occur during all seasons. However, many people find that it is worst during winter, when the blowing wind is cold and miserable. Some people are afraid of gusty winds, other of drafty rooms. The fear may have many different causes, from the fear of losing control to the fear of illness. Fear of Winter Driving Winter driving causes nervousness and trepidation in many people, but for some, prudent caution escalates into full-blown terror. This fear is generally worst in those who have a more generalized driving phobia or another winter-related fear, but it may also manifest on its own. Those who are unfamiliar with winter driving conditions, such as people who suddenly move from a warm climate to a cold climate, may be at particular risk for developing this phobia. Fear of Being Trapped Although it is often confused with claustrophobia, the fear of being trapped is properly known as cleithrophobia. While people with claustrophobia are afraid of small spaces, those with cleithrophobia are specifically afraid of being locked or stuck in a small space. The phobia may be triggered year-round  but is often worst during the winter due to the small but real risk of becoming stuck in a snow bank or falling through thin ice. Cabin Fever Cabin fever is a collection of symptoms that may occur when people are stuck in one place for a long period of time. Famously portrayed in the 1977 Stephen King novel and 1980 film, The Shining, cabin fever is generally rooted in an intense fear of isolation. Violence, such as that shown in The Shining, is relatively rare and usually due to a pre-existing condition, but irritability, restlessness, depression and lack of motivation are common. Auroraphobia The fear of the Northern Lights, or auroraphobia, is an unusual but very real phobia. The fear is generally based on a larger phobia of astronomical phenomena. Astronomy and astrology have been heavily linked throughout history, and some astronomical fears are based on religious or doomsday phobias. In other cases, these fears are rooted in a generalized fear of the unknown. Managing Winter Phobias Like all phobias, winter phobias vary dramatically in their severity and the impact that they have on individual sufferers lives. For some people, education and exposure to the object of fear are sufficient to calm their concerns. More severe phobias, however, generally require professional guidance. As much as the film is about the end of the world, the author also gave great importance in portraying depression as a disease in itself rather than a state of mind, which can fully change the person both in thinking and in actions. This is seen the movie by how Justine eventually become, being happy with her wedding in the start and eventually fell into melancholy and somewhat lose her mind in the latter parts of the film. Despite being a slow-spaced movie, the film was able to pick up and display its greatness. With the use of symbolisms in the start of the movie which will eventually be unfolded and explained in the later parts of the film, the audience will truly appreciate and be mesmerized by the film. An example of such is when in the start of the film, we see a bride running while being held back by roots grabbing her ankles which will eventually mean Justine struggling with her mental illness. The director was also able to use comparison as a defining characteristic of the film, it was able to showcase two differing main characters of the film which heightened the story of the film. One character being all irrational and unbalanced and one being plain and adheres to standards. I was also impressed by how the director completely turned the plot of the story by stealthily hiding the main plot of the film and introducing it in the latter parts of the film. By doing this, although it made the film boring in the start (if one did not understand the slow-motion cinematics in the introduction), it eventually picked up and made a beautiful yet chaotic ending that no one expects to have. The cinematography of the film was also not cheap, and the sound arrangement was really good, I appreciated the use of classical music in the film specially in the climax of the film as it somehow gave a frightening feeling as the music volume up and faded as the movie comes to an end. I’ve also appreciated how the director was able to portray the reversal of roles of Justine and Claire when accepting the fact that the world will end. I was also able to appreciate and was surprised to see hints of morality being portrayed in the film. A prime example of this is when Justine had a sex with a stranger even though she was getting married. In this we see how Justine drive by her evil passions committed such an indecent act and which was considered to be morally wrong. Another example that I could find in the film related to morality is when the characters realized that the end of the world is near, one of the characters, specifically John, Claire’s husband choose to end his own life. Although their actions are reasonable, taking one’s own life is a cowardly way to face the truth and reality of life. In totality, I believe the film is great, once you understand the hidden meanings and the development of the plot, one can appreciate it. Although it might be somewhat boring and confusing for some, I was able to enjoy it. If there is anything that I would change about the film it is about how unrealistic the film really is, not in the sense about the end of the world which I agree with the writer himself, but how it is being unfolded. It feels like the author dwell to much in the exposition eventually rushing the climax and denouement. Additionally, the author left out the rising action part of the plot, it feels like the last part of the movie were rushed and skipped to the climax. The last time I saw the young man who supposedly loved me, was on my seventeenth birthday when he told me I was a waste of his time. There is no way that someone could learn to love anyone when love is an emotion that is already inside a person but does not come out until one finds someone they really love. This representation of love is so misleading  that some people may never know what love is really like for they are deceived by television shows like this. I also watched the movie, Titanic, which was referred to as one of the greatest love stories ever. The character of Rose is in love with another man who she is about to marry. She then meets Jack and she no longer knows if she loves her fiancee for this new man seems so much better. No one could possibly grow love for another after only knowing each other for a day. This is another misleading representation of love where people will begin to think that someone that made them happy is the love of their life. This movie would be a great love story if something like this was possible but for something that is immensely fiction, it is something nice to watch, not to believe in.
