E. M. Forster :: essays research papers

Many aspects of writing catch a reader's attention and keep one interested in a book. E. M. Forster put many of these aspects in his books making them well written and quite interesting. He combined great characters, a decent story line, and his prolific knowledge of writing to make his books readable and enjoyable. E. M. Forster was born on January 1, 1879, in London, England. After an education at Tonbridge School and King's College, Cambridge, he spent a year traveling in Europe. On his return, he taught at the Working Men's College and established the Independent Review, a journal that supported the progressive wing of the Liberal Party. Forster later became a member of the Bloomsbury Group that discussed literary and artistic issues. He published his first novel, Where Angels Fear to Trend, in 1905. He wrote many other novels including Longest Journey, Howard's End, and A Room with a View. As a pacifist Forster wouldn't fight in the First World War, instead he worked for the International Red Cross. Two years later Forster moved to India where he worked as a personal secretary for Mahaharajah of Dewas. This resulted in his novel, A Passage to India. When he returned to England he wrote many critiques and articles but never wrote any more novels. E. M. Forster died on June 7, 1970. Many critics are split on E. M. Forster's writings, although most things written are positive and they all seem to agree on the same things. His use of characters and their development and his story lines all seem to be the same and have the same theme. All the characters in his books seem to contain the same elements. They are exempt from poverty, hunger, lust, and hate. They seem to have almost perfect characteristics and are never poor. None of his characters are portrayed in a relation to society; and all must choose between good and evil. ( XXXXX, #2). These characters seem less significant in themselves and more in an allegorical aspect that varies in complexity. XXXXX says, A fascination exerted by characters who grip our minds; a wit and beauty present in an always limped style; a passionate involvement with life in all its variety; a view of existence alive to its comic incongruities and to it's tragic implications; and a steady adherence to human values which compel administration... such are leading aspects of Forster's work that continually line up.

Vaccine Refusal Controversy

The subject that I’ve chosen as a controversial healthcare topic is vaccine refusal. The subject of vaccination has long been a controversial topic in healthcare. Universal vaccination initiatives have been met with resistance. There is scientific evidence supporting the benefits of vaccination however, parents and healthcare professionals continue to doubt the effectiveness and safety of vaccines. Vaccine preventable disease continues to be a threat to the public in the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that during 2011, a total of 222 cases of measles were reported. 90% of those cases were associated with importations from other countries. (MMWR. 4/20/12). There are several factors as to why patients refuse vaccination. A misconception regarding side effects is a common reason for vaccine refusal. Parents and/or patients believe that the vaccine is made up of the live virus and can in turn make the recipient ill. They do not understand the process for manufacturing vaccines or the process for which the body creates antibodies. (Fraleigh, J. 5/1/09). Vaccine safety is another reason for vaccine refusal. There is a lack of trust in the federal government, which oversees the approval of vaccine released to be administered. An important factor to vaccine safety is not only the manufacturing process but also maintaining the cold chain for proper vaccine storage. Maintaining the cold chain is an important factor in ensuring that the vaccine being administered is viable. Maintaining the cold chain relies on more than one person or entity. The cold chain begins with the manufacturer and is then transferred to the delivery of the vaccine and the proper storage. The last phase of the cold chain is the administration of viable vaccine to the patient. There are several areas in this process that allow for vulnerabilities in this process as demonstrated by the Office of Inspector General Report from 2012, Vaccines for Children Program: Vulnerabilities in Vaccine Management (Levinson, D. . Regardless of patient and healthcare professional’s refusal to utilize vaccine there is clearly a benefit to vaccination. Vaccine preventable diseases are debilitating and deadly. A good portion of the general public has never seen some of the vaccine preventable diseases such as polio. Therefore, the existence of such diseases is not relevant to some. The Basics of a Student Teacher Resume

Its important to think of your student teaching resume as your best marketing tool. This sheet of paper can be the key to getting a teaching job. Use the following tips as a guide as you develop your teaching resume. The Basics The following four headers are a must-have. The other options below should only be added if you have the experience in that particular area. →Identification→Certification→Education→Experience Identification This information should start your resume off concisely and should be printed using a font size of 12 or 14; this will help your name stand out. The best fonts to use are Arial or New Times Roman. Your identification section should include: NamePhone number ( if you have a cell phone number add that too)Address (if you have a permanent and a current address then list both of them)Email Certification This is where you list all of your certifications and endorsements that you have, each one should be on a separate line. If you are not certificated yet, then list the certification and the date that you are expected to receive it. Example: New York State Initial Certification, Expected May 2013 Education Make sure you include the following: If you are a recent or upcoming graduate then this section should be on top.Make sure you know the degree that you will be receiving and list it correctly.Include your GPA if it is 3.0 or above.Tutored students pre-k through 12th grade in reading and math.Teaching Related Experience: This section would include paid or unpaid experience that you had working with children. This can include tutor, sports coach, camp counselor, etc. Under each position list a few bullet-ed statements about what you accomplished during that position.Examples:Tutor, Huntington Learning Center, Kenmore, New York, Summer 2009.Teachers Aid, 123 Preschool, Tonawanda, New York, Fall, 2010.Oversaw the safety and care of childrenInteractive Field Experience: This section is where you add your student teaching experience. Make sure you include the grade you worked with and subject. Include specific examples of what you did with the students.Examples:Worked individually with students to develop reading skills throu gh interactive games.Developed and implemented an interdisciplinary social studies unit for a bilingual classroom.Lessons involved cooperative learning, language experience approach, hands-on experiences, and interdisciplinary teaching.Volunteer Experience/Community Service: List experiences that you had in which you supported people, communities or services. This can range from religious organizations to fundraising.Work Experience: This section is where you can include relevant experience that you had in other industries. Focus on skills that you can use in the classroom such as managing, training, public speaking, etc.Examples:Trained new employees in Search Engine Optimization.Managed payroll for company name. If you have not graduated yet, then list your anticipated or expected degree. Here are some following examples: Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, State University of New York College at Buffalo, Expected May 2103.Master of Science in Education, State University of New York College at Buffalo, May 2013. Experience This section is the most important part of your resume. Only include experience that is relevant and that demonstrates your skills and achievements. There are a few headers that you can use in this section. Choose the option that you have the most experience working with students in. If you have a lot of experience, then you can add more than one section. Additional Optional Sections The following sections are optional. Only add additional headers if you think it will add appeal to your prospective employer. Honors: Deans List, Scholarships, anything related to teaching.Special Skills: Ability to speak a second language, proficient in computers.Professional Memberships: List any educational associations you belong to.Related Coursework: List any advanced relevant classes you have taken.
